The Han Dynasty
Social Structure
The Han Dynasty emerged during the downfall of the Qin Dynasty . Liu Bang declared himself leader of the new Han Dynasty. The Han dynasty had a social pyramid in their society which had the emperor on top, and gradually made it's way down through nobles and peasants, to the bottom where the warriors and the slaves were.
Civil Service
The Han Dynasty had a Bureaucracy, so, they awarded people with these government positions by testing them with the ideas of Confucianism. This was implemented so the people in these positions had an idea of what their morals should be and what they should base their decisions off of.
Paper Making and Silk Road
One major accomplishment during the Han Dynasty rule was that they invented paper, so they could now have easy accessibility to writing. This allowed literature and writing to skyrocket. This also allowed their economy to skyrocket because they had more silk to trade, which is what they used previously to paper. This caused the Silk Road to come about and caused a huge system of roads and paths to occur across Asia for trading, which consisted of mostly silk for However, their empire fell due to an imbalance between the rich and the poor. Also, Wang Mang overthrew the government saying they needed a strong leader. Wang Mang grew the economy. Then, a huge flood hit their empire and left many poor dead and hungry. This caused riots and rebellions which ultimately ended the Han Dynasty.
Rome Comparison
There are many similarities between the Han Dynasty and the Roman Empire. For example, both replaced governments or empires that were becoming corrupt. Also, they both had a Beauracracy system of government. Finally, they both created systems of protection due to nomadic invasions that they both were conflicted by. (2)
